Caption	Bassist and composer Israel "Cachao" López, born in 1918 in Havana, Cuba, is credited as the inventor of the mambo. Considered a master of the Latin jam session known as ?descarga,? Cachao has won several Grammy awards and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Cachao died on March 22, 2008 at the age of 89.
